Oscar 2026 Nominations: Ariana Grande, Paul Mescal and More Snubs & Surprises
Delroy Lindo's family isn't feeling any blues about his 2026 Oscars nomination.
The Sinners actor revealed the sweet moment he shared with his and wife Nashormeh N.R. Lindo's son Damiri Lindo after he earned a Best Supporting Actor nod for his performance as blues musician Delta Slim in the 2025 vampire horror film. (For the complete list of 2026 Oscar nominees, click here.)
In fact, Delroy told E! News in an exclusive interview that Damiri—who is currently working in Europe—was the first one in their family to learn the exciting news.
"I was in bed," he recalled. "My phone rang. It was my son. I picked it up and said, 'Hey man,' and he said, 'Dad, dad, you got it. You got that s--t.'"
Emphasizing that his son was "very excited," the 73-year-old went on to explain why it was a full-circle moment.
"It means the world because he's seen it all," Delroy said. "He's seen it away from the red carpet. He's seen both sides of it. So, along with my wife, they have the internal and the external perspective on this journey. It felt completely right on to receive this news from my son."
And the actor—who faces off against Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value), Benicio Del Toro (One Battle After Another) and Sean Penn (One Battle After Another) in his category—is equally as thrilled about the Ryan Coogler-directed movie's other nominations for the 98th annual award show, airing on ABC and streaming on Hulu on March 15.
After all, Sinners was recognized in a whopping 16 total categories, setting the record for most nods for a single film in Oscars history.
"It's just incredibly joyful and affirming," Delroy told E!. "Affirming that audiences inside and outside of the industry have responded to this work so fully, and the fact that the work has touched people, I believe, in the depth of their humanity."
He added, "I don't have the words to explain how gratifying and affirming that feels. It's extraordinary."

Delroy isn't the only Sinners cast member to be a first-time Oscar nominee. Michael B. Jordan, who is up for Best Actor for his performance as twins Smoke and Stack, is also competing for the coveted trophy for the first time. Meanwhile, Wunmi Mosaku earned her first nod for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of healer Annie in the film.
For Delroy—who's previously racked up critical acclaim for his roles in movies such as 1992's Malcolm X and 2020's Da 5 Bloods—he credits early conversations with Ryan about life in the Jim Crow South as helping to create a robust character profile for Delta Slim.
"I told Ryan that I seemed to disappear in the second act of the film,” he explained in an interview with The Ankler published Dec. 11. “I’m much more present than I was originally in that first draft.”

Hamnet Author Maggie O'Farrell
After the film adaptation of her novel was nominated for Best Picture, among other categories, Maggie described it as "astonishing and joyous news."
"’m so grateful to the Academy for these nominations, which recognise and celebrate the work of so many talented individuals who worked on Hamnet," she added. "When I was writing the novel, it never occured to me that such a turn of events would be possible: I’m having to pinch myself at regular intervals because it all seems like a dream."
