Despite everyone expecting the contrary, Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders will not be involved in his son Shedeur Sanders’ NFL career with the Cleveland Browns.
NBC Sports’ Michael David Smith relayed Coach Prime’s intentions after the “Grown QB” disinvited his father to the Browns’ training camp in Berea, Ohio.
“Deion Sanders revealed on Monday that he is recovering from bladder cancer. He will continue in his role as Colorado’s head coach, and continue to support his sons’ NFL careers — from a distance, in the case of Shedeur,” Smith wrote.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter once reported that Coach Prime would go after any NFL head coach, short of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin, if the team was struggling and Shedeur wasn’t getting opportunities.
“Short of Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin, any other coach who drafts Sanders better be comfortable with his standing within the organization,” Schefter wrote. “Because if that team struggles and the fan base is calling for a coaching change, speculation will start to swirl about Sanders’ father taking over.”
Shedeur isn’t getting opportunities and truly hasn’t since sliding to the 2025 NFL draft’s fifth round, but Kevin Stefanski revealed in May that there wasn’t any pushing from Coach Prime.
Of course, it’s come to light that Deion was battling bladder cancer during that time, so it’s not particularly shocking to hear that he hasn’t been aiming for conflict.
When you almost lose your life, perspective changes. Coach Prime is a changed man after nearly passing away and has other wars to wage outside of his son’s QB competition in Cleveland.
