Deion Sanders shares impassioned message after health scare

Earlier this year, it was reported that Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders had a mysterious illness. Eventually, it was revealed that he'd had cancer and had to have surgery to get a bladder tumor removed. He's now back and ready for another season, but he offered up a passionate message for everyone in the wake of his health scare.

Sanders said in a press conference on Monday, "Get yourself checked out. Especially African American men, we don't like going to the doctors, we don't like nothing to do with the doctor, you know that. So I'm not just talking to the brothers, I'm talking to my Caucasian brothers, my Hispanic brothers, my Asian brothers, everybody and my sisters."

He implored everyone to go for routine health checks, adding that it could've been a "whole nother gathering" if Sanders hadn't gotten checked out himself. "I'm thankful," he added. "It's been a tremendous journey. It's been tough, I think I dropped 25 pounds. I was like Atlanta Falcon Prime at one point, you know?"

He also added that there'd be some changes to Colorado practice to help accommodate his journey back to full and total health, including potentially adding port-a-potties to the sidelines this season. "I cannot control my bladder," he said with a laugh. Fortunately, Sanders is back and on the mend, but he did just go through a particularly scary ordeal.
