The search for a quarterback in Boulder continues as Deion Sanders made another change at the position.
Julian Lewis’s benching during the Buffaloes’ 23-13 loss to Baylor on Saturday highlighted Colorado’s ongoing quarterback struggles post-Shedeur Sanders.
Lewis was replaced by Utah transfer Issac Wilson, younger brother of former Jets first-round pick Zach Wilson.
In 2025, Colorado started three different quarterbacks en route to a 3-9 season. This season aimed to be different, with Julian Lewis having the keys to the offense.
Lewis is a four-star recruit and the 10th-ranked quarterback in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.
The sophomore entered the season showcasing that he could be lightning in a bottle, as he was the catalyst behind a 75-yard game-winning drive in Week 1 against Georgia Tech.
Since the heroics, Lewis has been a failure to launch.
Across three games, Lewis threw for 609 yards and four touchdowns to two interceptions while completing 69 percent of his passes.
He has yet to throw for more than 200 passing yards against an FBS opponent.
Lewis’s sluggish play continued in Waco. He completed 11-of-16 passes for 75 yards in the first half of his Big 12 debut. That was enough for Coach Prime to make the change at halftime for Wilson.
Wilson boosted the offense by leading multiple scoring drives. He also threw a game-tying 17-yard touchdown to junior receiver Joseph “JoJo” Williams early in the fourth.
Despite the efforts, the Buffaloes defense couldn’t stop Bears quarterback D.J Lagway. He helped Baylor put up 10 points unanswered to close out a home win.
Wilson in the second half now raises some questions. He completed 12-of-25 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. His average yards per pass was 6.4, an increase compared to Lewis’ 4.7.
Colorado now falls to 2-2 on the year, and it’s been 16 games and two offseasons where Sanders still can’t find the answer at quarterback.
With 11th-ranked Texas Tech coming to town next week, Colorado is once again put in a tricky situation.
