An EF-3 tornado ripped through Mount Vernon, Illinois, on June 21, killing two people, injuring five others and destroying three homes, authorities said. Video captured the powerful funnel cloud as it moved through the area, leaving downed trees and widespread damage in its wake. Resident Danielle Heck described the storm as sounding like a “freeway tunnel surrounded by semis” as trees were pushed down near her home.
