The Dayton Flyers just added a high flyer to their recruiting class.
The fact that he comes from close to home is just a bonus.
On Friday night, Julian Washington committed to play his college basketball at the University of Dayton. Washington is a 6-foot-5 wing from Margaretta High School in the small northwest Ohio town of Castalia, just outside of Sandusky.
"It kind of just hit me," Washington told the Sandusky Register. "The night before, I made the decision in my head. I went to bed and I was up all night and what was in my head was I just kept thinking Dayton. That was definitely the Lord talking to me and telling me it was the right fit for me. I'm very excited."

Washington picked Dayton over his other two finalists, Florida Atlantic and Northern Iowa.
There isn't anything on the basketball court that Washington can't do.
He broke out right away as a freshman for the Polar Bears, receiving his first college scholarship offer in the summer after that season ("a dream come true," he called it), and his star has risen quickly through his first three high school seasons.
As a junior, Washington was a first-team All-Ohio choice while averaging 21.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
Washington has always been a long, athletic wing, and as he's grown, his game has grown with him.
He added tight handle, sweet floor vision and a silky smooth jumper.
With an explosive first step and great leaping ability, Washington is an almost impossible cover at the high school level.
In college, he likely winds up playing the 2, and he's got the offensive and defensive combination of abilities to do it.
Dayton coach Anthony Grant was a big part of Washington's decision, he told the Register. Grant got himself a good one.
Washington has one more high school season, and he and Margaretta will aim for a state championship. If they get to that stage, the final would be played at UD Arena.
It'd certainly be fitting if Washington could close his high school career at the place he'll go on to play at the next level.
