The Miami Heat re-sign 3-and-D specialist Davion Mitchell to a new 2-year, $24 million dollar deal, according to NBA insider Shams Charania. Mitchell, who is nicknamed "off-night," was stellar on both ends of the floor for the Heat late in the season.
Mitchell, a highly respected defender throughout the league, had an outstanding finish to the season. The lockdown guard averaged 15 points per game in the Heat's playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Mitchell was sent over to Miami from Toronto in February as one of the pieces acquired by the Heat during the Jimmy Butler saga. The Heat is Mitchell's third team during his NBA career. He has spent time with the Kings in Sacramento and the Raptors in Toronto.
The Heat guard finished out his 2024-2025 season averaging 7.9 points, 4.9 assists, and shot an efficent 49% from the field. Mitchell was set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but his solid play in Miami helped him earn a new deal in the 305.
Mitchell, a great on-ball guard, complements Tyler Herro very well. Due to Terry Rozier's decline in play, the Heat felt the need to get Mitchell locked up before NBA free agency gets off and running.
At the end of the season, Mitchell said, "I just kind of fit right in." The Heat front office agrees, as the 26-year-old out of Baylor will run it back at the Kaseya Center this upcoming season.
