Dave Coulier and John Stamos have each other’s backs — even when social media does not.

In light of Coulier’s Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis announcement, Stamos donned a bald cap alongside his Full House co-star to “show some love and solidarity,” according to his Instagram post on Monday (Nov. 18).

“You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring. I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you,” he penned, also shouting out Coulier’s wife, Melissa, as his “true life line.”

However, per TVLine, some critics found the gesture to be inauthentic, as one commented, “So he’s not really supporting him. He’s posing for a photo op.”

Others on X deemed the act “crazy,” adding, “you prepped a photshoot moment, got makeup done and wore a bald cap for your friend battling cancer??”

Some jokingly likened the pictures to how Uncle Jesse, Stamos’ character on the hit family sitcom, would react in this situation and not actually shave his head.

In response to the backlash, Coulier took to Instagram with a statement, in which he wrote that he is “sorry to see a bunch of negative comments as [he’s] just begun [his] cancer journey.”

“It’s our friendship (me and John) and this is how we are handling a very tough time,” he continued. “I’m a comedian and humor is what drives me. John knows how to cheer me up and I laughed out loud when he arrived wearing a bald cap – being a true loving friend and brother.”

Coulier acknowledged the outreach he’s received from those who have been “inspired enough by [his] words and actions” to take action themselves by getting checked out. He also shared that he and his loved ones turned to positivity and humor when his sister, mother, and niece battled cancer.

“So, I’m choosing to spread the word about early cancer detection to help people,” he added. “That’s just who I am. I wish nothing but love for all of you.”

Stamos shared his love with three heart emojis in the comments section. DECIDER had reached out to Stamos’ rep for comment.
