Dante Bichette tells The Post why son Bo is primed to excel with Mets in New York debut

PORT ST. LUCIE – Dante Bichette played 14 seasons as a major league outfielder, but wasn’t about to push baseball on his youngest son.

The initial plan was for Bo Bichette to pursue tennis.

“You write your own lineup card in tennis,” Dante said in a phone conversation this week. “It’s like you kind of control the whole thing, and he was really good at it.”

At the very least, tennis could serve as excellent cross-training for Bo if he decided to pursue baseball. Fielding a ground ball requires finding a good hop, as does hitting a tennis ball. The serve is analogous to throwing. The swing is similar to a baseball swing.
