Daniel Kaluuya Watched Every Episode of 'The Kardashians' to Prepare for 'Misty Green'
Nope, Daniel Kaluuya had no trouble putting his acting hat back on.
But he did get some help from an unlikely source to prepare for his latest role in Misty Green, which marks his first onscreen credit in more than three years.
“I watched every single Kardashians episode,” Kaluuya exclusively told E! News at the world premiere of the A24 film during the Toronto International Film Festival Sept. 12. “I had The Kardashians on the whole day, and I watched The Kardashians the whole day from the beginning.”
As for what he thought about the reality series starring Kim Kardashian and her famous fam?
“I understand the phenomenon,” he said. “I enjoyed it. I get they’re a family. They're sisters. I get it. It's an honest piece of television.”
And it seems his research was fruitful in the audition process. After all, his role in the Chris Rock-written and directed film marks Kaluuya's first since appearing in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023.
However, the Get Out actor’s hiatus from acting was never intended to be permanent. He was just waiting on the right opportunity.
“I wasn't retired. I was just chilling,” Kaluuya explained, before adding of Rock, “He didn't convince me. The script was great, and then I was just like, ‘I’ll think about it’ because it was like, ‘Oh, I was supposed to get lead roles.' And what I loved about it [is it] gave me the freedom to be like, ‘Oh, this is what I love to do.’”
“It can be bigger roles, smaller roles, anything,” he continued. “I just followed. He had something to say.”

Another exciting addition to the film’s stacked cast was Rock’s 22-year-old daughter Zahra, who detailed what it was like working with her dad on the movie, out Oct. 9, which also stars Anna Kendrick, Adam Driver and more.
“He was great. I was a little bit worried about it at first because he's my dad,” Zahra told E! News in a separate interview at the event. “I didn't know how it was gonna go, but it was a great set. I had an amazing time.”
And the comedian—also dad to daughter Lola, 24, with ex Malaak Compton-Rock—was just as thrilled to make the film a family affair.
“It was amazing,” he shared after crashing Zahra’s interview. “It was incredible.”
