Dangerous sexually violent predator is suddenly released back into small California city

A vile child predator is back on the streets of a small community in San Diego County –– leaving shell-shocked locals scrambling to protect their kids.

Gary Snavely, who molested two young girls in 1987, was released from state custody Wednesday and will live in the town Borrego Springs.

In response, San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies and the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force went door-to-door giving neighbors the terrifying news about the monster next door.

“The purpose of this notice is to allow members of the public to protect themselves and their children from sex offenders,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement, noting that “an informed community is a safer community.” 

Following input from the public, Judge Daniel B. Goldstein approved placing Snavely in a single family home on Running M. Road in Borrego Springs in June of this year.

Jim Desmond, supervisor of District 5 in San Diego County, reacted with anger to the news of Snavely’s release.

“Borrego Springs is not a dumping ground. It’s a town. It has families…. Shame on the state for putting predators in our neighborhoods and calling it justice,” he wrote on X.

“Once again, the families of Borrego Springs are told to carry a risk the rest of the state refuses to take,” he added.

Snavely, diagnosed with pedophilic disorder, served time in state prison and a state mental hospital for sexually abusing two young girls over a four-year period.

Snavely was first released in 2007 after being set free under the Conditional Release Program (CONREP), but within 75 days he was back in a state hospital for violating the conditions of his release, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s office.

He again sought release in 2012 but the request was denied, according to the DA’s office.

In 2014, Snavely petitioned once again and was released and just half a year later, but was back at the hospital for violations.
