It doesn't feel correct that it's been 22 years since Duke and UConn last met in the NCAA Tournament, but Sunday's Elite Eight matchup between the two powerhouses was inevitable when you look at the success they have had in this decade.
The Huskies have two national championships under coach Dan Hurley and have looked unbeatable past the first weekend of the tournament. Meanwhile, Duke is in its third consecutive Elite Eight under coach Jon Scheyer and hasn't missed a beat since Mike Krzyzewski's retirement, despite still being in pursuit of a championship.
Hurley is the face of UConn, while Scheyer has quickly proven he is much more than just the product of the prestige and resources of the Duke brand.
Here's a look at the salaries for Hurley and Scheyer as they go head-to-head.

Dan Hurley salary
Hurley signed a new six-year, $50 million extension with UConn in 2024, after entertaining serious interest from the Los Angeles Lakers.
The deal gave Hurley an $8.33 million annual salary, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college basketball on a leaderboard that is constantly evolving.
Hurley has been at UConn since 2018, but he didn't win an NCAA Tournament game until 2023. Once he did get his first out of the way, the wins didn't stop coming. Hurley won 13 consecutive tournament games from the first round in 2023 through the first round in 2025 before losing to Florida.
Hurley and the Huskies have won three straight to open the 2026 tournament, and his salary figures to continue to rise as long as he is winning games in March.

Jon Scheyer salary
Scheyer's salary is not public, as Duke is a private university, but most outlets estimate his average annual salary to be between $7-8 million.
Duke has signed Scheyer to two extensions since he took over the job in 2022, inking the young coach to a new deal in 2023 and another in October 2025 fresh off a trip to the Final Four.
By all indications, Duke is thrilled with the job Scheyer has done since taking the mantle from Krzyzewski in 2022. It might not feel complete for Scheyer until he wins a national championship, but it won't be surprising to see him continue to rank among the highest-paid coaches in college basketball.
