Dan Hurley NCAA tournament record

  • 20-5 (.800)

Saturday's win over UConn was Hurley's 20th NCAA Tournament win in his coaching career, with two of those victories coming at Rhode Island in 2017 and 2018, and the rest as the leader of the Huskies.

Of Hurley's five losses in the tournament, two of them came at Rhode Island. He is in his eighth season at UConn in 2025-26 — and over that stint, the Huskies have made March Madness six times, only being eliminated in three of them as of the 2026 Final Four.

Hurley's record at UConn in the NCAA Tournament is an outstanding 18-3. That includes a record of 11-0 once the Huskies reach the Sweet 16 and 18-1 the last four seasons.

Coaches with best NCAA Tournament winning percentage

Among coaches with at least 20 NCAA Tournament game appearances, Hurley's .800 winning percentage trails only UCLA legend John Wooden, although the other legends on the list have a much longer track record than Hurley's 20 wins.

Still, no matter how you spin the numbers, one thing is clear: Hurley is tracking to be an all-time coaching great in college basketball.

Which coaches have most ever NCAA Tournament wins?

One coach stands alone in all-time NCAA Tournament wins: Duke's Mike Krzyzewski. "Coach K" racked up 101 March Madness over his career, the only men's coach with at least 100.

Plenty of other legends are on the list — longtime UNC and Kansas coach Roy Williams ranks second with 77, while another all-time Tar Heel, Dean Smith, is third with 65.

Hurley, 53, still has a ways to go if he's going to even enter the top-10 for NCAA Tournament wins.

How many national championships does Dan Hurley have?

  • 2 (2023, 2024)

Hurley has already brought two national titles to UConn, when the Huskies went back-to-back in 2023 and 2024. The first title may have been more unexpected, but UConn was flat-out dominant in 2023-24, winning a program-record 37 games while cruising to a No. 1 seed and second-straight championship.

Now, Hurley will have a chance to bring his third championship to the Huskies in 2026.
