If Milwaukee Bucks fans need any reassurance around the uncertainty of Damian Lillard returning, they got another one Friday morning.
The nine-time All-Star took to social media for the first time since tearing his Achilles against the Indiana Pacers in Game 4, sending a message that symbolizes his intention to return to star form.
“Our Greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall,” Lillard tweeted.
Lillard underwent successful surgery to repair his tendon, the team reported via Twitter.
The Bucks’ slim odds to defeat the Pacers only worsened with Lillard’s early-game exit. But this season-ending injury potentially implicated something greater: the end of his time in Milwaukee. Lillard’s tenure as a Buck has been hampered by injury, limiting them way below the championship expectations upon his initial arrival.
They’ve won just three games in the Lillard era, with each postseason run impeded by devastating injuries or coaching drama.
But, these recent comments imply that Lillard isn’t done with Milwaukee, and he’s prepared to get back to being the superstar the Bucks need alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo.
"He said two things, which I love," Rivers said to the Associated Press before Game 5. "The first one, he just said, 'I can't believe I'm here.' Then the second one is 'I'm not going out this way.' I can guarantee you he won't, and that's what I meant about his resolve."
