Dame Dash Responds to Jay-Z’s Roots Picnic Diss, Claims Drake Could Beat Hov in a Rap Battle: ‘I Know That for a Fact’

Just a few days after Jay-Z appeared to diss Dame Dash and others during his Roots Picnic freestyle, Dame wasted no time in responding to his Roc-A-Fella Records cofounder.

Dame sat down with The Art of Dialogue on Tuesday (June 2), which saw him unleash on Jay’s “terrible” freestyle, new Afro hairstyle and more.

“And I felt bad because I was like, ‘It must be embarrassing for him to now have to be on that stage, not the same version of himself, and still have to work at that age because he has to,'” Dame began. “For him to have to come out 20 years later, I just felt kinda embarrassed for him.”

“I couldn’t hear the lyrics because the hairstyle was crazy. Why would they let him come outside like that. That s–t is funny and there should be jokes for that hairstyle,” he continued. “I still care about Jay. Jay, when you do Yankee Stadium, I need you to get a caesar, I need you to put the Yankee hat on and do the thing to the side. We don’t want to see this version of you.”

Billboard has reached out to Jay-Z for comment.

The bars many believed to be shots at Dame came from an a cappella freestyle by Hov during his Roots Picnic set on Saturday night (May 30) in Philly. He rapped: “That Chatty Patty down on his luck again/ N—as teeth is tumblin’ out their mouth and somehow I’m the one who done it, there’s a murder mystery game.”

Dame wasn’t the only one who Jay appeared to have smoke for. Other shots throughout the freestyle seemed to take aim at Ye (formerly Kanye West), Nicki Minaj, Tory Lanez and Drake. The 55-year-old believes that Drizzy could get the best of Jay in a rap battle, as Hov seemed to be answering the 6 God’s ICEMAN jabs.

“And I don’t think Drake can beat Kendrick [Lamar], but I know Drake can beat Jay. I know that for a fact,” he added in The Art of Dialogue interview. “And then I was like, damn, this n—a ain’t say nothing about 50 [Cent]?”
