The Dallas Mavericks are on the road Monday as they take on the Utah Jazz in the first of four meetings between the teams this season.

Despite a lengthy skid to start the season, Dallas has built some momentum and hopes it has entered a stretch of better days. Through the first two months, the Mavs managed only five wins. Now, in the month of December alone, they have already won five games.

The recent strong performances from Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, P.J. Washington and Naji Marshall have kept the Mavs afloat.

Davis led the team to its 10th win of the season against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday. He scored a team-high 24 points, 14 rebounds and three assists in the 119-111 victory.

Meanwhile, Utah will be targeting a 10th win of the season. The Jazz were widely expected to be a bottom-dwelling team, but few believed they would be in the mix for a play-in spot in a congested Western Conference or even close to it. That’s a positive for a franchise that has been one of the league’s worst for many years now.

Utah completed a bounce-back with a 130-126 win against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, and they will be eager to maintain the momentum. Keyonte George scored a career-high 39 points, Lauri Markkanen added 26 and Kevin Love had a season-best 20.

In terms of injuries, Anthony Davis (calf contusion) and Daniel Gafford (ankle) are expected to undergo late medical checkups. Both listed as questionable.

Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving (knee), Dereck Lively II (foot), D’Angelo Russell (illness) and Dante Exum (knee) remain sidelined with injuries.

Coach Jason Kidd will look to continue using what has been working so far, as the team appears to be on a path toward turning its fortunes around. He’ll aim to keep riding the hot hands of rookie star Cooper Flagg and Anthony Davis, if the latter is available.

Both would most likely start alongside P.J. Washington, Ryan Nembhard and Naji Marshall. Klay Thompson would get the nod if Davis misses the game.
