Savanna Dastrup did not allow one painful disappointment to end her dream of becoming a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. After being cut during training camp ahead of the 2025-26 season, Dastrup returned for another opportunity and officially earned a spot on the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ 2026-27 roster.

The organization introduced its new team on Instagram in mid-July, writing, “Officially earned their stars. Introducing your 2026-2027 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders!”

Eight rookies made the final roster, but Dastrup’s name carried extra meaning for viewers of Netflix’s “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.”

Fans watched the Utah native make it deep into the audition process during Season 3. Her journey ended with an emotional cut, leaving Dastrup to wonder whether she would ever achieve her longtime goal.

Before leaving, the former TCU cheerleader asked DCC director Kelli Finglass and head choreographer Judy Trammell if they believed she had a legitimate chance to make the team in the future.

Their answer gave her hope.

“You might just chalk this up to timing and experience and the pressure,” Finglass told her. “But I think you’ve got the skills to make this team or another team.”

Savanna Dastrup gets her happy ending

Dastrup could have viewed the cut as the end of her Dallas journey. Instead, she treated it as preparation for her next chance. She returned in 2026 with more experience and a better understanding of the demands placed on each candidate. This time, she made it through the entire process and earned one of the team’s famous stars.

“This is an absolute dream come true!!” Dastrup wrote in the comments of the team’s announcement. “I am so excited and am so so grateful for this opportunity!!! go cowboys!!”

Her selection provides a satisfying conclusion for fans who became invested in her story on Netflix. It also serves as another reminder of how competitive the DCC audition process can be. Even reaching training camp requires enormous talent. Making the final roster often comes down to small improvements, added confidence and being ready when another opportunity arrives.

Netflix has not announced whether “America’s Sweethearts” will return for a fourth season. If it does, Dastrup’s comeback would give the show one of its most uplifting storylines yet.

Fans saw her walk away heartbroken one year ago. When the 2026 NFL season begins, they will see her performing at AT&T Stadium as an official Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.
