George Pickens has been the Dallas Cowboys' aerial weapon in the 2025 season, setting career-highs in every category (92 catches for 1,420 yards and ten touchdowns). And as free agency looms for him, he has received some words of wisdom from the man who feeds him all those balls.

Speaking during practice on Thursday, quarterback Dak Prescott said about his wide receiver's impending contract negotiations:

“Don’t let it get personal. At the end of the day, this is business. Both sides are gonna want negotiations. Honestly, me and Jerry's wasn't pretty at all, right?”

The tone stands in contrast to the comments that owner Jerry Jones made during his appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday:

"I don't know. We'll see how it goes. Probably both, but I certainly expect to be speaking with George."

Extending Pickens long-term became somewhat easier on Tuesday, as the Cowboys released two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs. However, the team's projected $36.8-million cap deficit still looms, and Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox believes it will lead Jones to use the franchise tag instead:

"Dallas may not be eager to give Pickens the sort of long-term deal he'd likely command on the open market. It already has a ton of cap tied to (CeeDee) Lamb and Dak Prescott."

Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer praises George Pickens ahead of 2025 season finale

While the Cowboys may no longer be in playoff contention, George Pickens still has something to play for in Week 18 at the New York Giants.

He is looking to become the third wideout in franchise history, after CeeDee Lamb and Michael Irvin, to have at least 95 receptions and 1,500 yards. And head coach Brian Schottenheimer is in awe of what he has already produced.

During his pre-game press conference, the former offensive coordinator said:

“He’s just such a lovable guy, and he’s so fun to be around... But I think the production comes because of the way he’s worked. I think his connection with Dak (Prescott) is awesome.”

Still, he did not forget Lamb's role in getting the best out of Pickens:

“CeeDee deserves a lot of credit as well. I think when I talked about CeeDee earlier, these guys draw attention away from one another. And I think their relationship is very, very important.”

Kickoff for the Giants-Cowboys game is at 12 pm CT on Fox.
