Coming across a messy shoe department is nothing new when shopping at Kmart. Actually, the same goes for the toys, clothing and books.
Aussies have been complaining about the horrendous state other shoppers have been leaving the store in for a long time. But a recent clip showing the state of the bargain retailer’s Easter display has now topped them all.
People are attacking the chocolate bunnies
TikToker Abbey Marie (aka @a.marie29) took to the social media platform to share a few clips of what she came across at her local store and “shocked” and “disgusted” doesn’t even cover it.
“Came here for peace,” she captioned the footage, which has been graced with 445K equally gobsmacked eyeballs.
The video begins with the most horrendous sight of all – multiple shelves filled with Easter chocolate bunnies that have been half eaten. Rows and rows of bunnies are seen left on the shelves with their ears (and sometimes more) eaten off with wrappers torn off, obviously leaving them unable to be purchased.
But it doesn’t end there. Other clips show that the level of disrespect also extends further to other departments within the store including the shoes – where you see a dog bed dumped.
The sad reality when shopping at Kmart
It’s a shocking sight for anyone but also a sad reality with many shoppers saying it’s completely normal to walk into any Kmart store in Australia and be confronted with the same scenes.
“I went to two different Kmart stores yesterday and they were both like this,” someone shared.
“Stores wouldn’t be in this state if everyone had a basic level of decency and respect,” another commented.
Another disgrunted shopper asked: “The customers are f**king grubs. Who does this in a store?”
Someone else agreed: “What’s wrong with people?”

Does Kmart need an age restriction now?
Many shoppers took the opportunity to point the finger at the culprits – unsupervised children and sneaky teens.
“The amount of people that use Kmart as a play center for their kids is infuriating,” someone shared.
“Kmart needs an age limit… get these teens out of here I’m sick of the disrespect,” another suggested.
And another angry shopper agreed that (while it will never happen) an age limit wasn’t such a bad idea: “Kmart needs a rule where you need to be accompanied by a parent/care giver if you’re under 18. The amount of teens I’ve seen trash Kmart for fun is ridiculous.”
“In reality, parents letting kids eat chocolate so they don’t have to pay for it. Yes, staff get paid to tidy the shop, but if customers stopped being so feral it wouldn’t get like this,” someone else slammed.
“If a pair of shoes don’t fit, put them back. Look after your kids in the toy section; Kmart isn’t a child minding facility!”
Who is to blame here?
Sadly, not everyone agreed and some placed blame on Kmart staff, who they claimed were either hard to find or perhaps cutting corners during their end-of-day clean-up.
“They need to get night staff in there and clean up,” one shopper insisted.
Another added: “This doesn’t happen in one day. Try finding a staff member in Kmart that isn’t overworked as not enough staff to cover the store.”
Another insisted that “management needs to step up.”
Meanwhile, it didn’t take long for staffers to defend what everyone has been seeing.
“As a staff member at Kmart my stress levels are so high because of posts like this blaming the staff. We try so hard to keep things tidy only to have customers wreck the place and then people blame us,” one highlighted.
“Everyone blaming staff has never worked a day of retail in their life,” another added.
