President of baseball operations Jed Hoyer is staying with the Chicago Cubs.

The team announced on Monday that both sides have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension, keeping Hoyer on the North Side.

From October 2011 to October 2020, Hoyer was the general manager of the Cubs under Theo Epstein.

In November 2020, Hoyer was promoted to president of baseball operations after Epstein departed and had done an excellent job rebuilding Chicago after trading away Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant and Javier Báez.

Hoyer was in the final year of his current contract and rumors buzzed about this season being his last with the team.

Well, those rumors have been put to bed.

“I’m so grateful for the Ricketts family’s trust and support for 14 years,” said Hoyer. “The Cubs are a special organization with an amazing fan base. I’m excited to keep building the momentum we have and to work with a terrific baseball operations staff to consistently deliver a championship-caliber team for this great city.”

Executive chairman Tom Ricketts reiterated Hoyer’s contributions to Chicago.

“Jed and his baseball operations staff have built a healthy player development organization and put an exciting, playoff contending team on the field. We are looking forward to the rest of the season and to working with Jed for years to come.”

Hoyer has been one of the most respected executives in baseball for a long time. He’s done an excellent job bringing in talent and flooding the farm system with top prospects.

He is already a legend in the city for helping bring home the franchise’s first World Series trophy in 108 years, and he will be even more of a legend if he can bring home another and/or re-sign Kyle Tucker.
