The Chicago Cubs had a lot of chances to draft Brady Counsell.
In the end, the son of manager Craig Counsell is going elsewhere.
It turns out the last chance the Cubs had was in the 10th round, pick 301. Chicago chose catcher Justin Stransky out of Fresno State.
At pick 303, the Arizona Diamondbacks chose Brady Counsell, the shortstop out of Kansas.
A 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior, Brady began his college career at Minnesota before ending it with the Jayhawks.
He hit .259 in his final college season while hitting 11 doubles and slugging 12 home runs.

He's not a sure thing, and maybe Counsell didn't want his son facing pressure in the same organization he's managing.
But it would've been a cool story at the same time.
Instead, Brady Counsell goes to Arizona, where his father once played a heroic role en route to the 2001 World Series title. Not a bad fit there, either.
