Cubs’ Kyle Tucker gets $600 million contract update

Kyle Tucker is certainly going to get paid a lot of money.

Two particular questions remain: How much, and by whom?

The Chicago Cubs lefty-slugging outfielder will be a free agent after this season.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden predicts that Tucker will sign a contract summer for value that "starts with a 6."

“Following Juan Soto’s record-setting $765 million deal in free agency and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s $500 million extension, Tucker is expected to land a nine-figure contract that starts with a 6," Bowden writes. "Several big-market teams, including the Cubs, Phillies, Yankees, and Dodgers, should be in play for him.”

The Cubs picked up Tucker from the Astros this offseason in a trade knowing they were only guaranteed one year with him.

Considering how Tucker is hitting in the early going, it's certainly been worth it in the short term.

Tucker is batting .278/.387/.552 with 12 home runs, 14 steals and 35 RBI.

Tucker, 28, should command everyone's attention in free agency.

His combination of power, on-base skills and intelligent base running should age well for whoever ends up with him.

In the meantime, he'll keep launching homers at Wrigley Field for the Cubbies.
