Cubs' explosive offense helps push them up the power rankings

The Chicago Cubs have been an interesting team to follow this year. While they are dealing with a ton of pitching injuries, they are still pushing wins across the board at an impressive clip.

Much of this comes from what the offense has been doing lately. They have been lighting up the scoreboard largely thanks to Pete Crow-Armstrong, Dasby Swanson, and Ian Happ.

And with the trade deadline approaching, they should be able to find another starting pitcher to help anchor the rotation. So, this is a team that others will not want to overlook.

Cubs' explosive offense helps push them up the power rankings

Last week was not an easy one for the Cubs, by any means. They started the week off against the San Diego Padres and then had a series against their division rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals, after, who have done quite well this year.

The Cubs were able to take care of business against the San Diego Padres, completing the sweep. They also put up a whopping 23 runs in the series finale on Wednesday.

However, they would struggle against the Cardinals, losing 17-1 in the first game of the series, and ultimately losing the series 1-2, but that didn't hurt them too badly. Instead, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller bumps them up a spot in his latest power rankings from No. 7 to No. 6.

"If you slept through the first 85 games of the season and happened to start watching Cubs games just in time for them to consecutively smoke the Padres 23-3 and get stomped 17-1 by the Cardinals this past week, well, that was the 2026 Cubs in a nutshell. There have been more ups than downs, but they've had some ridiculously high peaks and some disturbingly low valleys. They have the offense to contend for a World Series, but can they trade for an entire pitching staff over the course of the next four weeks?"

This team has the offense to go on a deep run in October, but it will be on the front office to find some pitching. This is a team that could really put itself in a great spot with some strategic moves over the next few weeks.
