Alex Bregman isn't as tall as he once was.

Well, at least if you believe all the official roster height listings for Bregman during his career from the Houston Astros to Boston Red Sox and now the Chicago Cubs as a high-profile free agent signing.

Bregman was listed as 6-feet even with the Astros.

With the Red Sox, he was 5-foot-11.

And now with the Cubs, Bregman is 5-foot-10.

It's unlikely that he's actually shrinking, though. This has to do with leaguewide alterations to a lot of hitter heights entering the 2026 campaign.

It has to do with properly measuring heights for the ABS challenge system, which arranges its strike zone based on a player's official height.

"We’re going to see a lot of height changes this year because, with the rollout of ABS, MLB is now measuring each player's height down to the millimeter," Joe Pompliano wrote on X. "The process is super strict — no shoes, no hats, knees exposed, back against the wall — and to account for potential shrinkage throughout the day, MLB is even requiring all its teams to take measurements between 10 am and 12 pm local time on their appointed day."

Bregman was expected by many to return to the Red Sox this season, but instead, he's gone to Wrigley Field to play for the Cubs.

It's a big addition for Chicago, which lost Kyle Tucker in free agency but added Bregman.

The Cubs won't care one bit how tall Bregman is. They'll just care how he plays, and he's proven throughout his career that he's one of the best players in baseball.
