Portugal soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup run didn’t end the way he’d wanted after Portugal lost to eventual champion Spain in the Round of 16 in July.
However, Ronaldo’s summertime isn’t all sadness. He made his plans to get married to his longtime girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, at some point after the World Cup. And with the iconic tournament in the rearview mirror, more details have emerged about Ronaldo’s wedding.
The couple is planning to get hitched in Madeira, Portugal, which is where Ronaldo was born and raised. Ronaldo and Rodriguez have been quiet about their wedding’s details, but reports indicate the cathedral in the island’s capital, Funchal, is booked for a huge wedding on Saturday, Aug. 8.
Plus, Savoy Palace hotel, which is a five-star hotel near the cathedral, has been reserved. All indications are this is for Ronaldo and Rodriguez’s wedding.
It’s interesting to hear that Ronaldo and Rodriguez have decided to get married in a church, as this deviated from the other biggest sports wedding this summer: when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got married at Madison Square Garden on July 3.
Clearly, Ronaldo, who was raised in a Catholic family, and Rodriguez wanted to honor their faith when selecting this wedding venue, rather than opt for somewhere famous such as MSG.
This is all up to personal preference, of course, and neither side is wrong for making the decision they did.
Perhaps the more interesting question is whether Ronaldo and Rodriguez will make guests sign an NDA and prohibit photos being taken during the event like Kelce and Swift did. Ronaldo’s massive fan base is surely hoping this isn’t the case.
