Cowboys trade rumor reveals Dallas has offer on table for 5-time Pro Bowler

The Dallas Cowboys are widely expected to make at least one move ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday and there's a rumor about one possible addition.

According to Easton Butler of Packers Report, the Cowboys have an offer on the table for Miami Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

"The Dallas Cowboys have an offer in for Dolphins Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, per source," Butler reported on Monday.

Fitzpatrick's name surfaced in a trade rumor on Monday via a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, so there's smoke to the fire that he could get traded.

The five-time Pro Bowl safety and three-time All-Pro was dealt to Miami during the offseason in a trade with the Steelers. Once considered one of the best safeties in the NFL, Fitzpatrick has been on a steep decline for a few years now.

He is having a good season in coverage, though, as evidenced by his completion rate allowed of 60.9% and passer rating when targeted of 83.6, both of which are a huge improvement from what he posted in 2024. Fitzpatrick also sports a Pro Football Focus coverage grade of 72.3, which ranks eighth among safeties.

The Cowboys need help at literally every level of their defense, from the defensive line and edge rusher groups, to the linebackers, cornerbacks and safeties rooms.

When it comes to safety, the Cowboys could use an upgrade over Donovan Wilson. Fitzpatrick might not be the elite player he once was, but he's still a better option than Dallas current starter.

Jerry Jones has already teased that one trade will be completed on Tuesday, and he hinted two more could be on the way after that.

Don't be surprised if Fitzpatrick is one of them.
