Cowboys rookie RB Jaydon Blue's initial role revealed at training camp

The Cowboys' backfield is in desperate need of a player to step up.

The team signed veterans running backs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in the offseason, but many fans are counting on rookie RB Jaydon Blue to be a standout. Those fans are probably disappointed after the first couple days of training camp.

Instead of social media being filled with highlights from the rookie out of Texas, they were filled with people wondering if he would get reps at all.

It's a sour development for the fifth round pick. This comes after reports that Blue is "borderline lazy" according to insider Marcus Mosher.

Blue publicly refuted the rumors but it doesn't change the fact that he is below Williams and Sanders on the depth chart. Nick Harris of the Fort-Worth Star Telegram confirmed that he got some reps with the second team on Tuesday.

At least Blue is getting work in some capacity, but some Cowboys' fans understandably want more. There are not many inspiring options in the backfield and Blue showed burst in his time as a Longhorn.

Still, he is a rookie and has time to develop, grow, and eventually take over that starting position at running back.

Only time will tell if he's up to the task.
