The Buffalo Bills are cutting ties with a former All-Pro who should draw interest from the Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders and Detroit Lions.
That former All-Pro is slot cornerback Taron Johnson, who Buffalo is going to release with the team undergoing a scheme change.
"The Bills are releasing long-time veteran CB Taron Johnson, source said. Makes sense with the new defensive scheme," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported.
This has nothing to do with Johnson's talent, as the former All-Pro, who was cut with two years left on his $30 million contract, is widely viewed as one of the better slot cornerbacks in the NFL.
He is also coming off one of his strongest years in coverage, with Johnson giving up a completion rate of 63.6% and a passer rating of 94.7.
As previously mentioned, we could see the Cowboys, Raiders and Lions all having interest in the veteran slot cornerback.
The Cowboys allowed Jourdan Lewis to leave last offseason, a decision owner Jerry Jones has lamented on multiple occasions. We suspect Jerry will be aggressive in making sure he shores up that position in 2026.
Las Vegas deployed multiple players in the slot last season, but none of them had much success. As a result, the Raiders should be looking for an upgrade and Johnson can provide it.
When it comes to the Lions, they may not have a need at the position unless Amik Robertson departs in free agency, which remains a possibility.
