While Dak Prescott’s season-ending injury was unpredictable, the Dallas Cowboys have to do everything they can to avoid missing the playoffs again in 2025.

They may not know who will be coaching the team yet, but the Cowboys’ front office can put together a plan on how they can upgrade the roster. Free agency will present the first opportunity, and there is plenty of talent available.

One potential solution could be to sign pending free agent Stefon Diggs. The four-time Pro Bowl receiver was traded to the Houston Texans last offseason, but as part of the deal, he also got a contract restructure that ensured he’d become a free agent. Spotrac projects his market value at about $13 million for one season.

While he didn’t expect to suffer a torn ACL injury, Diggs will now get what he wants, which is the freedom to choose where he wants to play next.

Some, like Mike Fisher of Athlon Sports, called Diggs “one fascinating” free agent “worth speculating on.”

"But 'affordable'' for Dallas?" Fisher asks. "No doubt; this might even have to be a one-year 'prove-it' deal for Stefon. Attractive to his brother, Dallas star cornerback Trevon Diggs? Obviously. Alluring to Dak, who will surely want the Cowboys' 'big chess piece'' moves to include offensive weaponry to line up alongside CeeDee Lamb?

"Have guys in the Dallas locker room talked about such a concept? Of course they have. And given the coming cap room, can those guys envision a revitalized Diggs on a short-term contract (due to the aforementioned 'age' and 'act'') working as the No. 2 receiver alongside Lamb as a way to fuel Prescott's aerial game?"

Diggs is 31 years old now, but he still averaged a respectable 62 yards per game while learning a new system with the Texans last year. Not only could he help provide a boost to the Cowboys’ offense, he’d get a chance to play with his brother, Trevon. What could be better than that?
