Cowboys inching closer to Mike McCarthy risk with Bears, Saints ready to pounce

It may be the end for the Mike McCarthy era in Dallas.

The Cowboys coach has not negotiated with the franchise ahead of becoming a free agent Wednesday, which has it “now looking like” he will hit the open market, according to ESPN.

The Bears — whom the Cowboys initially declined an interview request from — are the Saints are cited as teams that would have interested in speaking with the Super Bowl-winning coach.

McCarthy, 61, is 49-35 spanning his five seasons with Dallas, but has tallied just one playoff win and oversaw a 7-10 season this year.

There are five open coaching jobs, with the Jets, Raiders and Jaguars joining the Saints and Bears.

The Patriots made the first move in the coaching cycle by agreeing to former Titans coach and ex-Super Bowl champion linebacker Mike Vrabel.
