The NFL Draft is full of twists and turns, and Day 1 saw Shedeur Sanders fall out of the first round completely. Could the Dallas Cowboys capitalize on his slide?
After months of being a consensus top 10 pick, the recent weeks were not so kind to Sanders. More and more reports of him slipping out of the top 10 surfaced, and eventually, many outlets predicted him being selected at the end of the first round. The New Yor Giants traded back into the first round, and many thought Sanders' time had come. However, they selected Jaxson Dart.
Now the second round is here and the Cleveland Browns will be picking first. However, there is no guarantee that they will select him. The teams most likely to take him are the Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints. However, all three teams had the opportunity to take him yesterday and didn't, likely indicating that they do not think he is a franchise quarterback.
The Steelers may have passed on him knowing Aaron Rodgers will end up signing with them. The Saints and Browns could be holding out one more season in hopes of landing Arch Manning, who is regarded as a better prospect. What if the Cowboys get on the clock at No.44 and Sanders is still there?
Dak Prescott is unquestionably the starting quarterback for the Cowboys. He is under contract through 2028 with a potential out after 2027, according to Spotrac. Perhaps Sanders is not ready to be a starter in the NFL. However, what about in three years if he learned from Prescott? The Green Bay Packers have taken a similar route with Rodgers and Jordan Love. Rodgers is going to be a Hall of Famer and Love has had great success in two years as a starter.

Dak Prescott has missed 26 games in the last five seasons and the reality is that the Cowboys have not been close to a Super Bowl with him. One would think that if the Cowboys are not in Super Bowl contention in three years that Prescott's time in Dallas would be over. Sanders may be a project, and the Cowboys could make an unconventional move to secure their future at quarterback.

The movie would put more pressure on Prescott to perform. Rodgers won back-to-back MVP Awards after the Packers drafted Love. The Cowboys also have Joe Milton, so that could be a problem, but the Cowboys likely did not envision an opportunity like this. If the Cowboys want to consider having a plan for their future at the most important position, they may be willing to take Sanders at No.44.
