The Dallas Cowboys have had a disappointing season. They are eliminated from playoff contention. However, there have been some bright spots.
While listing players who have potentially played themselves into the Cowboys' future plans, FanSided's Jerry Trotta named Jourdan Lewis as a potential candidate to re-sign with the team. Lewis signed a one-year, $2.8 million deal last offseason.
"At 29 years old, Lewis has kept father time at bay to the tune of 78.7 coverage grade that ranks fifth among qualified corners, per PFF. He is also fourth in average depth of target allowed and has the second most defensive stops at the position," wrote Trotta. "Lewis is a top-three most important player on Dallas' defense. He's been the most consistent player on that side of the ball over the last two seasons, including Micah Parsons. His price tag will be significant, but he shouldn't dawn another uniform for the rest of his career."
Lewis came up with a clutch interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on December 22 in the Cowboys' upset win. It was his first interception of the season. He has started 11 games this season. He made eight starts for the Cowboys last year. He was a third-round pick by the Cowboys in the 2018 NFL draft.
Despite being a complementary piece to Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, Lewis has been a key player for the Cowboys the last few seasons.
"While Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland have All-Pro and Pro Bowl nods on their resume, Lewis is without question the heartbeat of the secondary," wrote Trotta.
