The Dallas Cowboys made a big splash on Wednesday morning by trading for George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The news broke on Wednesday morning, but CeeDee Lamb's post on X on Tuesday night may have hinted at the move before finalized.
Lamb posted a GIF of Simpsons character Ralph Wiggum waving, Tuesday night on X, accompanied by no text. The post was a callback to a viral video of Pickens waving at the camera after a 71-yard touchdown against the Browns. At the time, many fans commented about him alluding to a Pickens trade, but many insiders reported the news on Wednesday morning.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys are sending a third-round pick and swapping a Day 3 pick in 2027 with the Steelers in exchange for Pickens. He was a 1,000-yard receiver in 2023 and had 900 yards in 14 games last year. He will be a free agent after the season.
The Cowboys' new wide receiver duo could soon become very expensive. Lamb signed a four-year, $136 million deal in 2024. Pickens is projected to earn a four-year, $101 million deal when he hits the market.
They have a chance to become one of the best duos in the league. Pickens is wildly talented and has a great catch radius. He has been held back by the quarterback carousel in Pittsburgh. The Cowboys will have to assess Pickens' contract at some point. If he starts off strong, the team may be wise to make sure he does not hit the open market. The Cowboys ended up extending Amari Cooper after trading for him in 2018. However, he did play a significant number of games with the team before they decided to do that.
