Cowboys' Brian Schottenheimer gives CeeDee Lamb very low bar to clear for Week 7 return

The Dallas Cowboys offered up a huge injury update on wide receiver CeeDee Lamb ahead of their Week 7 game against the Washington Commanders.

Earlier in the day, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer revealed that Lamb would return to practice for the first time since his injury. That puts the Cowboys star on track to return after a three-game absence.

When asked what needs to see from Lamb in order to know he's ready to go, Schottenheimer revealed it wasn't much.

"Yeah, if he’s breathing, I’d feel pretty good... Honestly. Nah, I mean CeeDee knows how to play football," the coach said. "If he runs around and catches a pass or two, I’m good," Schottenheimer said, per ESPN's Todd Archer.

Talk about a low bar.

Lamb started showing signs of progress last week, when he was able to take part in some work on a side field. However, he was listed as a non-participant in practice each day last week, so the Wednesday update is a major step in the right direction.

In Lamb's absence, the Cowboys have leaned heavily on George Pickens, who has no doubt answered the bell with 359 receiving yards and four touchdowns in that span.

"[Pickens] is doing more than we did expect or that we could've expected," Jerry Jones said of Pickens. "And what's really special is he's a real plus to have around the team. He's a real plus around his teammates, he's a great plus around those coaches and those coaches really think highly of him."

"So, he's not only doing it on the field, he is doing it as a part of team concept. That's very important in his particular case, which should be noted," he added.

The emergence of Pickens and the return of Lamb are huge for Dallas, a team that regularly needs to put a lot of points on the board thanks to the defensive struggles Matt Eberflus' unit has seen this season.
