Brian Schottenheimer is heading up the Dallas Cowboys for another season, and there's no question that he's a good coach. But, he might be an even better coach than you ever imagined.
Last season, Schottenheimer led the team to a 7-9 record. Unfortunately, they fell short of the playoffs. But it was his first year coaching the team, and the offense left much to be desired.
This year is different. It could be a breakout year for this coach.
Brian Schottenheimer gets a major vote of confidence from NFL executives
On Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN released a roster of predictions from NFL execs on 2026 award winners. They have Schottenheimer actually winning NFL Coach of the Year.
The only caveat here is that Fowler says no one coach really stood out from all of the finalists. All of the finalists got votes, so it wasn't like the Cowboys' coach was a massive winner. But, he got the most votes. That says something good for the Cowboys.
In the piece, he says, "In a tight race, let's go with a bit of a wild card: Schottenheimer, who has acquitted himself well in Dallas behind the scenes and has most of what he needs to win."
"I think Dak [Prescott] will have a big year; we know they can score; and the defense should be much improved," one NFC scout said, according to Fowler. "If they stay healthy, they have a good chance to win the NFC East."
The hope over Dallas' season really could get louder at this point. That's not a bad thing.
