The New York Giants had an incredibly successful 2025 NFL Draft. Headlined by edge rusher Abdul Carter and quarterback Jaxson Dart in the first round, the influx of high-end talent to a roster that was in desperate need of it is undeniable.
And while Carter and Dart are both expected to make a major impact this season and beyond, fourth-round running back Cam Skattebo has just as much of a chance to become a critical member of Big Blue's 2025 draft class.
In fact, Skattebo was recently listed among non-first-round running backs who could end up leading their team in touches this season.
"Simply put, Skattebo can do it all, and he proved it at a high level in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals when he recorded 143 rushing yards, 111 rushing yards after contact, two rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown against Texas," PFF's Beckett Mesko wrote.
"With rumblings of the Giants potentially releasing Devin Singletary and Skattebo already boasting better production, higher draft capital (one round earlier than Tracy) and elite grading, it's not hard to imagine the rookie taking control of New York's backfield sooner rather than later."
Cam Skattebo is a safe bet to be the New York Giants' starting RB in 2025
The Giants will begin the season with Tyrone Tracy as the RB1, but it won't be long before Skattebo unseats him for the lead-back job.
Tracy (5-foot-11, 209 pounds) profiled as more of a change-of-pace running back during the run-up to the 2024 NFL Draft. He ended up taking over as New York's starter around Week 5 and finished the season with 192 carries for 839 yards and five touchdowns. It was a respectable season for a late convert to the position, but with fifth-round draft capital, the Giants are far from fully invested in him.
That leaves Skattebo, whose size, contact balance, and three-down skill set are all starter's traits, to rumble his way into a critical role on offense eventually.
Fantasy football managers should take note: Skattebo has a league-winner profile because of the volume he can handle.
It's not a matter of if Cam Skattebo will become New York's starter; it's simply when.
