Could the Nets trade for Ja Morant following a Michael Porter Jr. trade?

The Brooklyn Nets have shown promise lately, as head coach Jordi Fernandez has turned their defense around.

That said, at 11-25, Brooklyn is expected to be sellers ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline. And for the Nets, there's no bigger asset than Michael Porter Jr.

Porter Jr. is excelling in his first season in Brooklyn, posting 25.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Having spent his first six years as a Denver Nugget, Porter Jr. is showing the league what he can do as a primary option.

As a result, he's garnering plenty of trade interest. Porter Jr. has been linked to the Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors and Detroit Pistons among other teams.

Although the Nets are expected to be sellers, one recent NBA insider suggested that they could buy as well. John Hollinger of the Athletic said that the Nets could be a "deep dark horse" to acquire Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies.

This gives the Nets a unique opportunity. They could possibly sell-high on Porter Jr. and attempt to buy-low on Morant.

If Brooklyn believes in the upside of Morant, it wouldn't be a bad idea. Additionally, Morant is one year younger and has one more year on his contract than Porter.

As the Nets have been rumored to be after a star, Morant could be their guy. However, there's plenty of risk involved, given Morant's off-court issues in the past.

Either way, with the Nets expected to sell, it'll be interesting to see if they also make a legitimate run at Morant.
