After 13 seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo's future with the franchise appears to be nearing a breaking point. The two-time MVP, now 31, put up excellent individual numbers this past season by averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists on 62.4% shooting.
However, despite those stellar statistics, the team still missed the playoffs entirely. So, Bucks' ownership wants a decision before next season starts: Antetokounmpo must either sign an extension or be traded this summer.
The Miami Heat have emerged as the frontrunner in the sweepstakes for months. NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Miami and the Portland Trail Blazers are already actively in pursuit. The Heat's rumored trade package includes Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and multiple future first-round draft picks. This includes almost all of the Heat's major trade assets except Bam Adebayo.
Meanwhile, ESPN's Shams Charania confirmed that the Bucks are officially "open for business" on trade calls and incoming offers. ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel went even further, writing that Bucks ownership is fully prepared to trade the superstar forward and that rival executives around the league widely expect him to land with the Heat.
But recently, NBA analyst BA Turner shared on “Spectrum SportsNet” what he heard from a source inside the Bucks organization but admitted he does not know what to believe, as the source gave conflicting messages about whether Antetokounmpo wants to stay or leave Milwaukee.
"In speaking to someone that I know that works there, they'll say stuff like, 'Giannis wants to stay in Milwaukee, Giannis wants to leave Milwaukee,'" Turner said on air. "I went to a state school and I'm confused right now… The last thing I recall hearing was the owner saying either they're going to sign him to an extension before a certain date, if not, they will make sure they move him somewhere else."

— Oh No He Didn't (@ohnohedidnt24) June 5, 2026His admission shows the reality of the situation. When an insider's own source inside the building cannot give a straight answer, it usually means either the situation is genuinely unsettled at the top or the Bucks are deliberately keeping the market guessing to drive up offers. However, everyone is likely to get the answer before the 2026 NBA Draft on June 23.
