Conan O’Brien’s Funniest, Most Viral Oscars 2026 Hosting Moments
Conan O’Brien has important advice on how to not flush away a relationship.
Not long after stepping off stage as host of the 2026 Oscars, the comedian shared insight into another milestone—his long marriage to Liza Powel O’Brien. And that success story, as he revealed, all comes down to having separate bathrooms.
“We were saved because we moved into a house that had a bathroom for me and a bathroom for you,” Conan explained to Vanity Fair during a joint interview with his wife at the outlet’s annual post-Oscars party. “I think that really saves [a relationship].”
The 62-year-old—who has been married to Liza since 2002—added, “They say that goes a long way to perpetuating a marriage.”
And based on Liza’s reaction, it appears he may be onto something.
“I don't dislike it,” she chimed in, as Conan clarified, “You don't dislike it, which means that's two negatives. She likes it!”
The Conan alum—who shares daughter Neve, 22, and son Beckett, 20, with Liza—then reiterated his point once more, saying, “I think that’s key, very key.”
With nearly 25 years of marriage under their belt, it’s safe to say Conan and Liza, 55, certainly know what it takes to master a happy union. But Conan has known from the start that Liza was the one for him.
The pair met in 1999 while she was working as a copywriter for an advertising agency. Conan ended up coming to the agency to film a segment about the “worst advertisers” for his show Late Night with Conan O’Brien—and he remembers being enamored with her immediately.

As he put it to Piers Morgan in a 2012 interview, "Somewhere, in the vault at NBC, there's footage of me literally falling for my wife on camera.”
The late-night host also recalled how quickly he hit it off with Liza, who has since gone on to become an accomplished playwright.
"I immediately start talking to her, and then I'm not even trying to be funny,” Conan shared on The Michelle Obama Podcast in 2020. “I'm just trying to find out more about this woman.”
“Then I left the room after this 20-minute conversation with only her,” he continued. “We were breaking down the equipment and she walks out. We start talking some more, and then we end up talking in the lobby."
And even though there’s footage of that fateful meet-cute, Liza previously joked that her husband has never gone back to rewatch it.
"He's never watched it... he wants to remember it instead," she said during a guest appearance on the Inside Conan podcast in 2022. "Which is sweet, but it's like... are you afraid you're gonna reconsider?"
Since then, the couple have been inseparable, and she’s been by Conan’s side as he hosted the Oscars the last two years. In fact, she even played a role in helping him prepare for the big night.
As Conan explained to Vanity Fair, “She had to put up with maybe four months of me trying bits and jokes out on her at like, two in the morning.”
Conan and Liza weren’t the only couple who walked the red carpet together at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. Keep reading to see who else stepped out for a glam date night…
