Jayden Daniels’ season is over.

The Commanders are shutting down the injury-plagued quarterback for the final three games of the season as they look for Daniels to prepare to get back into form for the 2026 season.

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn told reporters on Monday that “a lot” went into the decision to sit their sophomore quarterback.

Daniels had been sidelined for the Commanders’ win over the Giants on Sunday due to a left elbow injury that he had aggravated the week prior.

Quinn said it was a decision that was “part medical and part team.”

“As of today, he still wasn’t all the way cleared to play. Last week we didn’t have all the results until the end of the week and a short week next week with the Christmas game, so we believe this decision allows him to take advantage of the next few weeks in a different way,” Quinn said.

“He wants to practice and he will practice. He also wants to support Marcus [Mariota] in a way that Marcus has demonstrated and helped him.”

Daniels had been coming off a 2024 season in which he was named the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and helped to lead the Commanders to the NFC Championship game.

Things didn’t go as rosy in his second year in the league, though injuries limited him to seven games in 2025.

Daniels dealt with knee, hamstring and elbow injuries during the course of the season, while Washington has gone 4-10 this year.

Daniels threw for 1,262 yards, along with eight touchdown passes and three interceptions, before being shut down.

He added another 278 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdowns.

The Commanders will face the Eagles twice and the Cowboys before the season comes to a close.
