The Washington Commanders need more help at wide receiver but have yet to make a substantial addition in free agency.
Washington's need at wide receiver is clear. Deebo Samuel is a pending free agent and there isn't much behind Terry McLaurin.
The only semblance of help the Commanders have given Jayden Daniels in terms of outside help thus far is the signing of tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo.
The expectation is Brandon Aiyuk will land in Washington at some point, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the San Francisco 49ers are in no rush to release him. Even if Aiyuk lands with the Commanders, it's hard to rely on a guy who hasn't taken a snap since 2024.
With the Commanders in desperate need of more help at receiver, FOX Sports' Greg Auman predicts Washington will sign veteran wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who was previously teammates with Aiyuk in San Fran.
Here's what Auman says about Jennings, who Spotrac projects will land a three-year, $67 million deal in free agency.
Jennings was a part of the 49ers' underwhelming receiver corps this past season. He had 15 touchdown catches over the last two seasons, but he also totaled 643 yards this season on 90 targets, ranking 55th among NFL receivers in yards/target. If he's getting more than $20 million a year, maybe he priced himself out of San Francisco's budget?
The Commanders make sense for Jennings, as they seek to add another wide receiver to play alongside Terry McLaurin.
Updated prediction: Signs with Commanders
All signs are pointing to Jennings playing elsewhere in 2026 after Schefter reported that "it looks like the 49ers will be losing Jauan Jennings."
Jennings had an uninspiring first three seasons in the NFL, but he broke out in 2024 after tallying 975 yards and six touchdowns.
Jennings' production took a step back in 2025 with just 643 yards, but he was also playing hurt for most of the season. Even still, Jennings scored a whopping nine times.
Signing Jennings might not be the big splash Commanders fans want, but he would be an adequate No. 2 for Daniels and the passing attack.
We believe Spotrac's projection is wildly off and instead the ceiling for the veteran will probably be around $15 million. At that price, we could definitely see the Commanders springing for the Tennessee product.
