Commanders predicted to pull NFL Draft trade blockbuster for superstar RB

It's not often that the modern NFL Draft features a team trading up for a running back in the first round.

That's what the Washington Commanders might have to do later this month, though, if they want to get their guy.

The Sporting News' senior NFL writer Vinnie Iyer released a new mock draft on Thursday, and in it, he has the Commanders swinging a big deal.

Washington is slotted to pick No. 7. Iyer predicts that the Commanders will trade up to the third pick with the Arizona Cardinals.

And in that spot, Iyer has the Commanders taking Jeremiyah Love, the potential superstar running back from Notre Dame.

"The Commanders have made it no secret they love Love to be their new feature power back as they reboot their backfield this offseason," Iyer writes. "Rachaad White is a complementary option and Love can be the needed workhorse to boost the overall game of Jayden Daniels with David Blough taking over the offense."

But why would the Commanders trade up? It has to do with who's currently slated to pick in front of them.

Particularly the Tennessee Titans at the No. 4 pick and the New York Giants at the No. 5 pick seem like prime candidates to snipe Love in front of Washington.

Love won't go first to the Raiders or second to the Jets. So if the Commanders can find a path up to the third pick, they'd be able to ensure they get their guy.

The cost might be too high to move up just four spots, but if the Commanders really want Love, they may have to do it anyway.
