Commanders make die-hard Lions fan regret premature life-changing decision he can’t take back

The Washington Commanders have been one of the most unpredictable stories of the 2024 season.

After winning just four games last year and heading into this season coming off more than two decades of losing, dysfunction and drama under former owner Dan Snyder, Washington has completely overhauled its culture, roster and coaching staff and are now preparing for an appearance in the NFC Championship game for the franchise for the first time in 33 years.

Ahead of the season, Las Vegas set Washington’s win total at 6 games and plenty of smart people bet on the under. Instead, the Commanders finished the regular season with a (12-5) record to close out the regular season and have now added two more victories in the postseason to make it 14 wins on the year so far.

Even with the team’s instant turnaround this season — and the elite play of rookie QB Jayden Daniels — nobody predicted the Commanders would make it to the NFC Championship game.

Simply reaching the playoffs was a massive accomplishment. But Dan Quinn has clearly implemented a culture of belief and Washington marched into Tampa and knocked off the Buccaneers with a drive in the final minutes of the game to win with a walk-off field goal.

That was viewed as a massive victory, but even after that, the Washington Commanders entered Saturday’s divisional round matchup against the No. 1 seed Detroit Lions as two-score underdogs. The Lions have been dominant all season long and finished the year (14-2). Many had the Lions pegged as the favorite to win the Super Bowl this season and there was no reason to believe Washington could slow down the Lions’ potent offense.

But the Commanders came into the matchup prepared and ready and found a way to force five turnovers, while only punting one time.

As the final minutes ticked away and it was clear Washington was going to pull off the upset, the FOX camera crew panned across the faces of Lions fans who were clearly shocked with the outcome.

But one fan is feeling the loss with extra sadness.

A photo of a Detroit Lions fan made the rounds on social media that garnered plenty of attention after the loss.

The fan had already gotten a tattoo of the Lions logo in front of the Lombardi Trophy with the words “Super Bowl LIX Champions” written underneath it.

It’s a massive tattoo that takes up his entire thigh. You can see it here

Luckily he can cover it up with shorts or pants, or drop a good bit of cash to cover it up, but he bet on his favorite team with a life-changing decision he can’t change.
