Colts' Daniel Jones has more at stake in Indianapolis than you think

Daniel Jones is back with the Indianapolis Colts for another run. He's healthy again, which is huge. He's also coming off a season that saw great numbers, before he was injured.

Last season, Jones appeared in 13 games before he got injured. He completed 261 of 384 passes for 3,101 yards and 19 touchdowns. Those aren't shabby numbers.

So, Jones is back, and there's lots of excitement in the Colts' camp about what he can do this season. But, this season is actually extremely crucial to Jones for his future with the team.

Daniel Jones has a lot riding on this season

In a feature released on Thursday, Dan Graziano of ESPN makes quarterback predictions for the fresh season and beyond, including draft ideas. He says this is a big year for Jones.

Basically, Jones is playing for his long-term life in Indianapolis. The Colts have committed two years and $88 million to his deal, with more than $60 million guaranteed. So, they made a big bet on him. But, he has to prove that he's just as stellar after his injury and the guy they should sign for the long term.

His projection is actually a dismal one. He sees Jones getting injured again and being "in and out of the lineup throughout the season." That means the Colts will "have to decide next offseason whether to bring him back or move on. Their final win-loss record, and whatever decisions ownership makes about the futures of the coaching staff and the front office, will likely determine Jones' future in Indianapolis."

It's not just about if he can have a good season. It's about whether the Colts have finally found their franchise quarterback and the face of the team for years to come.
