It's been a tumultuous offseason for Deion Sanders.
In April, he had to watch both his sons free-fall in the NFL draft while dealing with bladder cancer in the latest of a litany of recent health scares. Not to mention having to lead a Colorado squad in a dramatic rebuild, the fact that Coach Prime is back in high spirits is a testament to his unwavering character.
With his Buffs taking the field in a month, the 57-year-old took time out of his schedule to visit Shilo, who’s fighting for a roster spot at Buccaneers training camp.
Deion is now revealing why he hasn't made his way yet to visit Shedeur.
In a recent conversation with former Cowboys teammate Michael Irvin, Coach Prime revealed that Shedeur didn't want his father in attendance as he tries to climb up the Browns quarterback depth chart.
"Shedeur told me not to come," Sanders said. "He didn't want me to come. He was like, 'Dad, I may get three, four reps in practice. I don't want you seeing that.' He ain't mad. He ain't bitter. He's like, I got work to do, but I'm going to put in this work. One thing, they're going to have to let me play; preseason is going to come. When preseason comes, watch me work."
It's refreshing to hear a candid Deion talk about Shedeur without complaining about his son's status in the league.
Deion has plenty on his own plate to deal with, but always putting his responsibility as a father first is admirable.
