Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders roasted by Colin Cowherd after 101 mph speeding stop: 'I don't think about him the same'

Shedeur Sanders did little to help his case in the battle to make the Cleveland Browns' roster the other night.

The former Colorado star was pulled over after midnight in Strongsville, Ohio, for driving 101 mph in a 60 mph zone—41 mph over the limit.

Fortunately, no one was injured and the situation could have been much worse. But for a player already needing to tighten up his image and performance, this is a brutal look.

Sanders, once considered a projected first-round pick with a guaranteed roster spot, slipped to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft—largely viewed as a mercy selection by the Browns. He entered a crowded quarterback room alongside Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.

FS1’s Colin Cowherd had been one of Sanders’ most vocal supporters in the wake of his draft slide. But even he now appears to be out on the quarterback after the speeding incident.

“Now in the last couple of months, two things have turned me off to Shedeur Sanders, who I have championed,” Cowherd said on The Herd. “That cringy, awful 'legendary' draft room. Bro, you're a B prospect. Ya know, your dad is Prime Time, who led with his ego for years. You gotta have a little self-awareness. I had more than one GM say... 'total turnoff.'

“And now this... 100 mph... Sorry, don't minimize it, don't pander. This is not good for a quarterback. Not good. As of today... I don't think about him the same.

“When you fall to 144 in the draft and then try to match that number behind the wheel of a car... yeah, I don't think the same.”

Supporters who had been willing to fight back against criticism on Sanders’ behalf may now find themselves reconsidering. That could include the Browns themselves.

According to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, all signs had been pointing to Sanders making the 53-man roster.

“As for Sanders, he’ll definitely make the Browns’ roster this season,” Cabot wrote, “but he has a steep climb to the starting job, with Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, the Browns’ third-round pick, all in his way.”

That hill just got a whole lot steeper.
