Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders is already part of his first trade narrative, less than two weeks after sliding to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft and being the second quarterback taken by the Cleveland Browns.
While there’s not an official report that Sanders is the QB the Browns plan on trading, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler relayed Cleveland’s front office’s plans to canvass the league for injuries and make trades accordingly.
“...the Browns look at the roster through the prism of value and currency, which at least one source pointed out could lead to an eventual trade if injuries happen across the league,” Fowler wrote.
Bleacher Report’s Julia Stumbough didn’t outright say Sanders would be the odd man out, but titled her piece “Browns Reportedly Could Trade QB 'If Injuries Happen' Across NFL After Sanders Pick” and shared intel from Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot from her appearance on the “Orange and Brown Talk” podcast that pointed toward the team preferring Kenny Pickett’s non-pick-heavy approach compared to Sanders and Joe Flacco.
Certainly, there was an implication made.
The Browns getting something back for Shedeur in a deal is certainly preferable to a previous report this offseason of Sanders being potentially cut instead.
“Sanders landed in a place where he’s no sure thing to even make the roster, given that he’ll likely open training camp fourth on the depth behind Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel. (Deshaun Watson is also on the roster but currently rehabbing an Achilles injury.) But he says he’s willing to do whatever it takes to earn a roster spot,” Pro Football Talk’s Michael Davis wrote.
There’s a lot of talk pertaining to Sanders’ Browns tenure, but all of it surrounds the union being short-lived.
