Texas is ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Sports AFCA football coaches preseason poll, which was released Monday.
The Longhorns received 1,606 votes and 28 first-place votes. Texas has reached the CFP semifinal round each of the last two seasons, and there is considerable hype around quarterback Arch Manning.
Of course, the Longhorns will face No. 2 Ohio State in the opener at Ohio Stadium on Aug. 30. The Buckeyes are the defending national champions and beat Texas 28-14 in the CFP semifinals last season. Ohio State received 20 first-place votes.

Penn State is No. 3. The Nittany Lions received 14 first-place votes and are a strong national championship contender after a run to the CFP semifinals last season.
Georgia is No. 4. The Bulldogs received three first-place votes. Notre Dame rounds out the top five heading into the 2025 season.
The Coaches Poll differs slightly from Sporting News' Top 25, which has Georgia at No. 3 and Penn State at No. 4.
