On3's Andy Staples called former Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh's spade a spade when asked about the reason for the so-so performance of 2023's National Champions Wolverines this season.
"Jim Harbaugh delayed his decision. His decision was on the NFL's timeline, which is not on the transfer portal's timeline," Staples asserted on the Dan Patrick Show, explaining how Harbaugh didn't give much thought to the timeline of his leaving the program and the consequences that would follow for the Wolverines.
"So, the time you would have spent figuring out who your quarterback was going to be, getting a quarterback out of the transfer portal if you didn't like what you had on your roster - which they didn't - all of that was wasted because they were waiting on Jim Harbaugh to decide if he was going to stay or leave. That was the issue."
However, the On3 insider had some faith left in the program; more particularly in Harbaugh's replacement, Sherrone Moore, and whatever he will manage to smoothen out this offseason.
"I don't bang on Sherrone Moore for the roster this year because he had really no chance to address it. What he does in this offseason will tell us a lot more," Staples said.
Michigan flipping Bryce Underwood would strengthen Wolverines head football coach Sherrone Moore's case
Underwood's recent activities have swirling strong, conflicting rumors about his commitment to Michigan. First, the Bellville star QB prospect's high school hiring Connor Stallions made recruit gurus believe a flip is possible for Michigan.
However, the $10.5 million NIL-valued QB prospect visiting the LSU Tigers this weekend for their game, and reportedly showing great interest in flipping to their program is making recruiting experts think he'll stick with the Tigers.
Moore is doing everything to retain his most coveted QB prospect of the 2025 class, since, as Klatt highlighted, he would be the foundation of his roster at Michigan.
Until Underwood officially signs with Michigan, the fate of Moore's first recruiting cycle hangs in the air.
