Cobie Durant reveals Jerry Jones, Cowboys' interesting 2026 NFL Draft plan

The Dallas Cowboys have one main hole to patch up in the NFL Draft. It is to find a formidable defense that will push them back into Super Bowl contention. Jerry Jones already started it off right by getting Christian Parker as their new defensive coordinator. More commitment to improvement was also on display when they signed Cobie Durant in NFL Free Agency. Now, it looks like they have a specific type of player in mind when it comes to the young gun who plays cornerback for them in 2026.

Durant knows  Parker and the Cowboys' need

There are two names that are floating around who the Cowboys seem to be contemplating over in the NFL Draft. As of the moment, it is either Parker aims for D'Angelo Ponds out of the Indiana Hoosiers or Ephesians Prysock from the Washington Huskies. A lot of evaluation needs to be done to determine which one of these two will end up playing for Jones. Durant posits that the tiebreaker will be how good one of them is when it comes to adapting on the field under bright lights, via Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News.

"Guys are just looking for guys that can make plays, man. There have been plenty of guys that have been under the 6-foot spectrum and made plays," the newly signed Cowboys cornerback said.

The Cowboys were the worst team in the league when it came to defending against the pass. They ranked 32nd when it came to opponent passing yards per game because their defense allowed a whopping 251.5 yards off air assaults in 2025. This statistic is even made worse by the fact that they allowed a horrendous average of 280.3 passing yards from their opponents whenever they played at AT&T Stadium. So, Durant's statement is proven right. The Cowboys need someone who they plug in immediately after the 2026 NFL Draft.

"They’re just looking for guys that have that dog in them and have that heart. Guys that have a bunch of confidence when they’re going out there, playing between those white lines, and that’s what I bring, even though I’m not on the spectrum of being a six-foot. I bring an excitement to the game, my swag, how I go about business and just being around the ball, and being around my teammates, and hunting," he added.

A lot is riding on who Parker, Jones, and the Cowboys choose in the NFL Draft. Whether it's Ponds or Prysock, maybe even someone else, they are going to rely heavily on him alongside Durant to improve their passing defense.
